Art

There are five basic art projects in this history course.  The first two deal with each eighth grader attempting to represent what has gone into their own history.  They take a cereal box and cover it so they can place their own art work on it giving themselves a name that represents them if they were cereal.  They then place the ingredients that have gone into making them who they are and the prize inside that is the reward for those who get to know them.  The second project is similar to the first in that it is a representation of what has gone into forming them into who they are.  It is a collage representing favorite sports figures, heroes, and food.  Their family, school, friends, and religion are also portrayed.  It is an attempt to help them understand that just as much has gone into who they are------so too----much has gone into who America is.

The students also make a special map for their "Expansion" project.  Finally they create an art project for each of their two choices for  "Person of Interest".  Rubrics for the project along with ideas are given.

The Art teacher spends a good deal of time with the eighth graders in the art classroom to help them, give them ideas, and stimulate creative thinking.  We hope to give the students ideas for high school when they have to do similar projects.  These activities also integrate art into the subject area.
